Device links information block
Devices from different device types can be linked. The linked devices become the child devices which can also have child devices.
Child devices can be linked to other devices, however the link to the root device will be removed.
If child devices have been configured for history tracking, only the root device is displayed in the History which contains the changes of the child device.
The creation of links between devices is always tracked in the History.
There are two ways to add a link to another device. You can link the device to an existing device or create a new device that is immediately linked to the device.
Prerequisites
You have added the information block to the device type, refer to Adding information blocks.
To add a link to an existing device, proceed as follows:
Click the Add Device Link button to select a device that shall be linked.
→ The Link Devices dialog is displayed.Select a device to add the device link:
Enter text into the Device Search field or open the drop-down list and select the device.
In the list of devices, activate the Link checkbox of the desired device.
Activate the Backdate Change checkbox to set the date of the change which happened in the past.
In the Timestamp. field, select a timestamp.
In the Labels field, enter one or more labels.
In the Comment field, enter a comment.
Click the OK button.
→ The selected device has been linked to the device.
To create a linked device, proceed as follows:
Click the Create Linked Device button to create a device that shall be linked.
→ The Add a New Device dialog is displayed.In the Device Type drop-down list, select the device type to which you want to add the device.
In the ID field, enter the ID of the device.
In the Name field, enter the name of the device.
Activate the Creation & Linking Date checkbox to set the date of the change which happened in the past.
In the Timestamp. field, select a timestamp.
In the Labels field, enter one or more labels.
In the Comment field, enter a comment.
Click the Create button.
→ The device is created and linked to the device.
To unlink a device, click the icon within the frame of the device and select Unlink Device.
